Cubes of pure olive-oil soap, stamped by hand with the maker’s name and stacked in hollow towers so air can reach every face while they cure.

Nablus family factories have made it since roughly the 10th century, and the city smells of it. Exports once reached Egypt, the Gulf, and Europe.
