Mohammed Assaf

A wedding singer from Khan Younis refugee camp who made his way from Gaza to Cairo for the Arab Idol auditions, and won the competition on 22 June 2013. He was the first Palestinian to do it.

Gaza’s streets filled that night. So did streets from the Gulf to Chile, wherever Palestinians lived. For one summer, the whole nation had the same song.
