Jaffa oranges

From the 1880s to the 1930s, the Shamouti orange made the name of Jaffa known on wooden crates shipped to Britain and beyond. The groves around the city anchored Palestinian export wealth in the decades before 1948.

The variety is still called the Jaffa orange, wherever it is grown now.
