Fadwa Tuqan

Born in Nablus in 1917 into one of the city’s great families, she wrote love first, then occupation, and outlasted both. Her autobiography A Mountainous Journey became a landmark of Arab women’s writing.

She died in 2003, and Nablus still calls her its own.
