Dabke

A line dance of linked arms and stamping feet, led by a lawweeh who calls the steps and tests the line’s discipline. It is danced at weddings, at harvests, and at protests, which tells you how much ground one dance covers.

Palestine’s dabke was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2023. Lebanon and Syria hold earlier inscriptions for their own versions of the same dance.
