Bethlehem (Bayt Lahm)

The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, photographed in the 1930s
Photo: American Colony Jerusalem Photo Dept. (public domain)

Manger Square, the Church of the Nativity (UNESCO-listed since 2012), olive-wood workshops, and some of the finest tatreez anywhere.

A Christian Palestinian city for most of its life, and a photograph from the 1930s shows the church much as pilgrims found it centuries before.
